Steals, Strikeouts and Curve balls

This year has been a blessing and a curse in our family. Everyday and moment we get to spend together is a blessing. We've had some wonderful times and some not so wonderful. This past summer we lost a very special lady in our lives, my mother in law. She was a special treasure to me and my children and I feel blessed that we had her in our lives. Not a bigger curve ball could have been thrown at us, as when we got the news of her passing we were sitting in a hospital far from home in an ICU unit hearing that Jacob (my middle son) has Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.

As is life, it's amazing but it just keeps going on. We've grieved, we've gotten angry and we've felt blessed. Grieved for grandma and now Jakes everyday struggle with a disease that so few seem to know much about. Gotten angry for dealing all this at us at once. And felt blessed that grandma never had to worry about Jakes disease. And we keep on, keeping on!

Jake is an amazing young man. We've had so many compliments from doctors and educators about his maturity in dealing with his disease. From day one he has taken charge of his own shots and testing. We pray for a cure and have started a team for Jake for the Walk for a Cure in February 2011 at the Mall of America. Please feel free to visit his site, with every dollar raised is a dollar closer to finding a cure so, so many children won't have to go through the struggles of diabetes.
