Winter Can Be Beautiful!!

We are getting really tired of all the snow in Minnesota, but it's scenes like this that make the winter not seem so bad! We were able to enjoy a wonderful weekend in Grand Rapids at Ruttger's Sugar Lake Lodge. What a wonderful place! It was so quiet and peaceful! You would never know that it is a golf resort in the summer! And look at the beautiful fireplace! Your not going to be able to enjoy that in the summer time. Ahhh, winter does have it's benefits...

Pretty Close To Heaven

After spending two days and three nights at Elbow Lake Lodge in Cook, MN. I can't stop talking about it! What a totally peaceful, relaxing getaway. As you'll be able to tell by some of my pictures. We were there between Christmas and New Years and it was just the break my family and I needed. The boys were able to ice fish. The girls were able to catch up on some reading and play lots of card games and board games. Need some time away from it all check out Elbow Lake.

Football Birthday Party a Success!!

Check out my football cake I made! It turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. :) The field is actually a chocolate cake and the football was a white cake with raspberry filling. I even decorated a plan green plastic table cloth with stripes and numbers to make it look like an actually football field. The boys were impressed! For gifts for the boys I bought nerf footballs for them to take home and the highlight of the evening was an actual football game in the back yard.

Steals, Strikeouts and Curve balls

This year has been a blessing and a curse in our family. Everyday and moment we get to spend together is a blessing. We've had some wonderful times and some not so wonderful. This past summer we lost a very special lady in our lives, my mother in law. She was a special treasure to me and my children and I feel blessed that we had her in our lives. Not a bigger curve ball could have been thrown at us, as when we got the news of her passing we were sitting in a hospital far from home in an ICU unit hearing that Jacob (my middle son) has Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.

As is life, it's amazing but it just keeps going on. We've grieved, we've gotten angry and we've felt blessed. Grieved for grandma and now Jakes everyday struggle with a disease that so few seem to know much about. Gotten angry for dealing all this at us at once. And felt blessed that grandma never had to worry about Jakes disease. And we keep on, keeping on!

Jake is an amazing young man. We've had so many compliments from doctors and educators about his maturity in dealing with his disease. From day one he has taken charge of his own shots and testing. We pray for a cure and have started a team for Jake for the Walk for a Cure in February 2011 at the Mall of America. Please feel free to visit his site, with every dollar raised is a dollar closer to finding a cure so, so many children won't have to go through the struggles of diabetes.
